Brief: To design a room three metres square that was both functional and aesthestically pleasing to the eye.
As the given dimensions were restricted, in terms of meeting the requirements, I created a room called the ‘Ghost Room’. I used low, transparent glass furniture to give the deisign a feeling of space and openess. The full-length minimal mirror was positioned centrally to open up and reflect light within the space. The back wall was papered in an over-sized paisely design in a pale olive green - a colour which is very relaxing and fresh. The patterned paper created interest in the room - a contrast to the transparent furniture. Lighting utlised within the room was provided by Vener Panton Fun Lamps, one with a pearlescent shell finish and the other with a chrome reflective finish. Both worked to accentuate the room and to bring the design together. The Gel Fire was a feature rather than a source of heat. Once the gel was ignited, a warm glow filled the ‘Ghost Room’. This project won first prize - Concept For Living Interior Designer of Year 2004 a title that I am both proud and grateful of winning.
